ABOUT ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Nick Verona is a Canadian Singer/Songwriter based out of Toronto, Canada. His main influences consist of: Elliott Smith, Conor Oberst, Bryce Avery, Bob Dylan, John Mayer, and Leonard Cohen.
He started off in a Pop Rock band called Blue 42 (Rich Mason, Casey Benson, and Matt Godin). They wrote together for a year or two until they finally split and went different directions. Rich and Casey took on a new project called ‘Arms To Illustrate’. Matt had disappeared at this point and hasn’t been heard from since. Nick went on to start something on his own called Verona.
Verona lasted a short while and slowly became ‘Split Through My Skies’. While STMS had a constant change in it’s roster, there were 5 that stuck. Nick Shaw (Verona), Dan Graham, Joe Nicholson, Chris McDonald, and occasionally Lance Ludwig.
During the recording of their last EP, the band split for personal reasons and Nick went back to his solo effort ‘Verona’. Since then he has been under the name Nick Verona.
Since going back to the solo project Nick has recorded several EP’s and a few full length albums. Only one of which has actually been available for purchase. “Envy” was released in late April 2008, and is currently available on his myspace and on this web page.
Nick is currently working with several other musicians including most of the ‘Elixir Act’ on another version of “Envy”. This version will still have all of the songs off of the original “Envy”, but will be done with a full band, and will have more of a folk sound. Backed by, female and male vocalists, violin, organ, piano, mandolin, swingin’ bass, and solid drums, this album will be sure to take “Envy” to a whole new level. Be sure to keep and eye out for the new release in late 2008.
